WHAT IS A LIFE CYCLE ASSESSMENT?
To gain a better understanding of how our products impact the environment, Pureology commissionedwhat’s known as a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), conducted by Five Winds International. An LCA is an in-depth, scientific method of measuringenvironmental impacts associated with all the stages of a product’s life, from the raw materials that go into formulas to manufacturing, distribution, consumer use, and how products are disposed of after use. The LCA measures environmental impact across categories such as greenhouse gas emissions, energy use, water quality and water use.
Through packaging changes, we’ve reduced our environmental impact across all categories tested
- 33% decrease in energy use during the packaging production and transportation life cycle phases for Hydrate Shampoo
42% decrease in energy use for Hydrate Conditioner over the same life cycle phases
- 37% reduction in water use during the packaging production and transportation life cycle phases for Hydrate Shampoo
38% decrease in water use for the Hydrate Conditioner during the same life cycle phases.
99% of the water used during the life cycle of a bottle of Pureology Hydrate Shampoo or Condition occurs during the consumer use phase
The water and energy used to heat water during the consumer use phase are the largest sources of environmental impact across the life cycle of our products
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
Learn how together we can create change
- Focusing only on formulations and packaging would leave a huge opportunity to further reduce our environmental impact unaddressed
- In addition to our efforts in future formulation, manufacturing and distribution, we need to educate colourists and consumers about water conservation *According to sustainable audit conducted by Five Winds International
