Strength Cure vs. Strength Cure Blonde

Find the right formula for hair breakage

Damaged hair, hair breakage and split ends are common hair concerns that affect many. And what causes hair breakage? Physical damage from hair ties, styling, excessive brushing and heat styling can result in breakage and split ends, and chemical damage from bleaching, perming, relaxing and even some hair products can also weaken strands. That’s why it’s so important to find the right hair treatment for damaged hair. Pureology’s award-winning Strength Cure formulas are packed with powerful ingredients that can help fix hair damage while also preventing future breakage, but you may have also noticed there’s a Strength Cure Blonde formula as well. Learn about the difference between these two formulas and who should be using which.

Strength Cure Shampoo & Conditioner

Strength Cure Shampoo & Conditioner

A best seller for a reason! This duo is the winner of a coveted Allure Best of Beauty Hair Award – Best Shampoo & Conditioner for Color-Treated Hair. It’s easy to see why people are completely obsessed and call it the best shampoo and conditioner for damaged hair. Packed with star ingredients including Keravis, a strengthening, plant-based protein that works two-fold by penetrating the hair shaft to moisturize and enhance hair’s plasticity while also coating the outside to protect and reinforce the cuticle layer. Arginine, an amino acid, not only strengthens hair strands and helps counteract damage from styling, chemical and heat damage, but also promotes hair growth by stimulating the hair follicles. The powerful antioxidant Astaxanthin can also help with hair growth, an anti-inflammatory that helps neutralize free radicals.

“If your hair is prone to breakage, splitting or feels brittle, Pureology's Strength Cure Shampoo and Conditioner can provide the nourishment needed to improve hair resilience and reduce breakage,” says Pureology Artistic Director, Jamie Wiley. “If you're looking to grow your hair longer or improve its overall health, the Strength Cure line can also be beneficial. It contains ingredients that promote hair growth and help maintain the hair's natural moisture balance.”

This mix of ingredients means Strength Cure is an amazing hair breakage treatment that also moisturizes, heals and repairs while promoting hair growth and also helping to prevent future breakage. That’s why 90% of women in a clinical study said hair looked less damaged after just one use of this shampoo and conditioner. Another thing consumers love? The super bright, fresh and fruity aroma of Raspberry, Peach and Water Lillies.

Strength Cure Blonde Shampoo & Conditioner

Strength Cure Blonde Shampoo & Conditioner

Now that we’ve gone ahead and dove into the incredible benefits of Strength Cure’s strengthening and repairing properties, let’s get into how it differs from its sister shampoo and conditioner, Strength Cure Blonde. The difference is pretty straightforward – Strength Cure Blonde contains all of the beneficial ingredients that regular Strength Cure has, but with the addition of Purple Orchid. Purple Orchid extract is touted for its reparative, protective and moisturizing properties, and in the case of Strength Cure Blonde, it also acts as a toner for hair, neutralizing brassy yellow tones in blonde. To understand how hair toner works, you need to know color theory. Hues on the opposite side of the color wheel are called contrasting colors and can visually cancel each other out. So for blonde hair that’s gone from a cooler, ashy tone to more yellow, purple will act as a toner for blonde hair and help neutralize yellow when applied.

Another key difference between these two formulas is the usage. While you can use Strength Cure consistently on every hair wash day, Strength Cure Blonde’s suggested usage is once a week or every third wash, depending on hair’s porosity and how much it absorbs and holds the purple toner‘s color deposit. For anyone who feels their hair is getting too ashy, just simply skip using the toner until you begin to see the brassy yellow tones start to come back. Since there is no developer used, the hair cuticle is not opened, therefore this toner is not permanent and only adds a layer over the hair color which is why it needs to be reapplied. (If you want something that lasts a little longer, try our Top Coat + Tone Purple!) Lastly, this aromatherapy scent is a little different, with fruity Pear soft, floral Rose and a warm touch of Sandalwood.
